The One Restaurant

The One Restaurant

February 11, 2013

The One Restaurant has been on my wish list for a while for one main reason. Their skyscraper high bubble teas. They are little 3 times the height of the cup they serve it in. How does it not fall over when they bring it to the table?

Words out that there is a new bubble tea joint in Surrey that is actually decent. Beipas and Dee took me to my first Taiwanese restaurant on my Vancouver trip, and we had dinner at Bubble 88.

My friend has been talking about this Taiwanese restaurant in Richmond with awesome popcorn chicken that his friends brought him to. Last week it was my turn to try it out. They were hyping it up a lot!

I had a lunch with a friend at No.1 Beef Noodle House, a place I’ve always wanted to try. I’ve been here a couple times for bubble tea, but never had their food.

Alishan is another Taiwanese cafe in the Kingsway-Burnaby area similar to Bubble World, but this place strongly advertises that they don’t use MSG. The place gets busy during lunch time so we went at about 11:45 in the morning. By the end of our meal there was a line up outside waiting to get in.

I don’t often visit a bubble tea joints for food, but my friends brought me to the newish What8ver Cafe because they wanted to try it.

We visited this place after we visited Steveston Pizza so we weren’t exactly too hungry for dinner. We decided to get a few items to share, which included Salt & Peppery Chicken, Club Sandwich, and Minced Pork Rice.

Beef Noodle & XLB at Crystal Mall

January 04, 2011

A couple months ago a friend introduced me to Favor Eat World‘s Taiwanese beef noodles and Wang’s Shanghai Cuisine‘s XLB (Xiao long bao) at the food court in Crystal Mall.

Like most people, I consciously avoid mall food, but these 2 places were way better than I expected.

Tea Work Taiwanese

Tea Work Taiwanese

October 03, 2010

Once in a while this question always comes up at midnight: where can we get food?

Tea Work is a spot I discover recently that conveniently opens til 2am daily. I was there for a very late dinner, and the fact that this was a Taiwanese restaurant, I was more interested in getting little dishes than an actual entrée.

Boiling point is a  individual hotpot restaurant.  Its a little bit different from other shabu shabu places where you are given raw ingredients and you have to cook your meal.  Boiling point cooks your food for you, then they put all the ingredients into a little wok with a small burner on the bottom for you to eat from. This way your hotpot will stay warm until the end of your meal.

Ju Ju Shine is a typical Taiwanese style mom and pop shop. Its more like a deli than a restaurant. It’s designed for people to grab a quick bite, whether its lunch, dinner or anything in between.

Chef Hung Taiwanese Beef Noodle.. Overrated? Nope!

Chef Hung Taiwanese Beef Noodle.. Overrated? Nope!

April 13, 2010

Honestly, I’d never even heard of the place before Friday. I just got into Taiwanese Beef Noodle on Friday (yah, yah, I had some back in January but that didn’t really count), so this was my second taste of the delicious soup in the past 72 hours. My friend told me about this place today, and then I quickly looked at Urban Spoon, and saw the huge grey 29%. I got a bit worried. I went onto read some trust worthy reviews by Sherman, Chowtimes, and Follow Me Foodie and wasn’t so worried anymore. The lines looked ridiculous, and I probably wouldn’t have waited an hour on my first try. I came in with not very high expectations. I definitely wasn’t falling for the hype to only be let down.
