Word’s out, there’s a new Japanese ramen restaurant in town. Really? do we need another ramen joint? Well, if you are like my ramen fiend friends you won’t be complaining. It has been freezing these couple days, so my friends and I decided we want something soupy for dinner, and we went to check out Sanpachi on Bute and Robson.

Finally, the long awaited Japadog on Robson opened. We joined the opening day rush, and visited it right after work. We got there at a really good time for dinner. Since it was opening day, we were already expecting a big line up, but to our surprise there were not any when we got there. There was only 1 lady in front of us. However, this lady in front of us, took 15 minutes to order 2 hot dogs, therefore the line up was formed once again.

I never knew that there were so many other Izakaya places in Vancouver. I was only really familiar with Guu and Hapa, and only until recently I learned about Zakkushi. I was helping my friend look for a place for her birthday. Wanting to try new places, I found 3 Izakaya restaurants around Denman and Robson that I hadn’t been to. Unfortunately, we went to our last choice, Wanoma. This place is really tiny, and at the time was hosting two fairly large groups, ours of 10 and another across from us with probably about 10 too.

After 2 attempts of trying to get seats at the infamous Hokkaido Ramen Santouka, I finally made it! I was there on a Tuesday night, and Tuesdays seem to be the day to visit this ramen joint without any line ups. I assume that goes the same with the rest of the weekdays except Friday.

This weekend my original plan was getting ramen at Hokkaido Ramen Santouka, but was ruined by the never moving line up. Hungry and grumpy, I thought, I haven’t had dinner at Ap Gu Jung in a while, so my friends and I made a quick decision to hop restaurants.

Hidden was first of the few restaurant we went for Dine Out Vancouver this year. We picked this place because it was only $18 dollars and the menu was interesting. Hidden is located on Robson street, in side The Westin Grand hotel. The 3 of us tried every single item on the menu, from appetizers to desserts. I will start with the appetizers.

I’ve been to Benkei Ramen a few times, but this is my first time at their newest location on Thurlow. We were seated fairly quickly which is surprising because we were there during prime dinner time during the Vancouver Winter Olympics. We were seated in a kind of open booth, the waitress can walk in the middle and take orders and serve the food. We are seated on wooden box-like chairs with an opening on the bottom for you to put your stuff. I don’t want to put my jacket on the floor, so I just placed my jacket on my lap while I ate. Kind of uncomfortable.

Viet Sub was our first stop on our first food walk expedition, what a place to start off the food walk!
This place is tiny, but it sells quite a few items from Vietnamese Subs, to Pho, to varies salad rolls. We decided to try a couple of their subs: Deep Fried Pork Sub and their Special Sub ($3.75).

This weekend I went to get some late night grub at Ebisu on Robson with some friends. I went in with a fair amount of excitement, because I like Japanese tapas and I like having drinks with tapas.

Falafel Maison is a little Middle Eastern restaurant beside the new Japadog on Robson. It’s really small, and I think I just normally walk past it without noticing it. But my friend lives close by and he recommended the place. I was impressed.

Hapa Izakaya is probably one of the better places for Japanese tapas in Vancouver. This is one of my favorite izakaya restaurants.
I went to their Robson location with a party of 5, and we were offered a really nice big round table to sit at. The seating was spacious, and the furniture was really nice with dark wood tables and cushioning seats.
