Hi Genki

Hi Genki

August 23, 2011

Hi Genki is a restaurant situated in a Japanese old folk’s home in Burnaby that I’ve heard so much about. I finally I went in for lunch with my sister, specifically for their Japanese lunch boxes. We got there around noon, and we already have to wait for a table.

Beef Noodle & XLB at Crystal Mall

Beef Noodle & XLB at Crystal Mall

January 04, 2011

A couple months ago a friend introduced me to Favor Eat World‘s Taiwanese beef noodles and Wang’s Shanghai Cuisine‘s XLB (Xiao long bao) at the food court in Crystal Mall.

Like most people, I consciously avoid mall food, but these 2 places were way better than I expected.

Japas Bistro on Broadway is a Japanese tapas restaurant by night, but for lunch they almost have a completely different menu. I went to check it out with my friend for lunch a few days ago, their lunch menu consisted of Japanese rice burgers, and 5 appetizers.

Veneto’s Cake & Pastries was one of those places where I always want to visit, but every time I’m around the area, they’re always closed. Why do bakeries always close so early?

Benkei Ramen on Main and East 5th

Who knew there’s a Benkei Ramen on Main and East 5th? It seemed like it was in such an odd hidden location. I would have never knew it existed there hadn’t my friend ask me to meet her for lunch there.

Last week my friend and I visited Acme Café. We meant to get there earlier for breakfast, but things got tied up, so we settled for a “late brunch” i.e. lunch.

Avalon Dairy Deli Store

Avalon Dairy Deli Store

June 13, 2010

I stumbled upon the Avalon Dairy Deli Store while I was stuck in traffic on the way home a couple weeks ago. Avalon Dairy Deli is located in the heart of Burnaby’s business park on north Fraser way. Knowing that we were going to be stuck in traffic for at least another hour, and there was no point of returns, we were lucky that our cars stopped right in front of the store.

Simba’s Grill, African Fusion

I just had one of the most satisfying lunches ever at Simba’s Grill. I regret not visiting this restaurant sooner. I went to this restaurant out of pure interest in African food. I’ve had Ethiopian food once before, but other than that I’ve never had anything African.

Komi Sushi, not impressed.

Komi Sushi, not impressed.

March 27, 2010

I went on a business lunch at Komi Sushi. This Japanese restaurant has great location. It’s in the middle of all the office buildings, and I imagined it was a frequent lunch spot for most white collars working in that area of downtown Vancouver. Having that said, great locations don’t necessarily have great food. Judging from the looks of it outside, I was already a little hesitant to walk in.

Swiss Bakery, chocolate hearts, sandwiches and more!

February 10, 2010

Alright, I promised you to get a review on Swiss Bakery‘s Valentine’s specials before Valentine’s day, and here it is! …and some more.

They had quite a few Valentine’s special selections, they were mostly some sort of chocolate that were shaped like hearts. So many selections and I narrowed it down to 3. Chocolate mousse cake, Chocolate Ganache cake, and Salted Caramel Tarts.

Au Petit Café, grand taste in sandwiches

Au Petit Café, grand taste in sandwiches

January 06, 2010

I was introduced to Au Petit Café last year on a lunch trip, with my coworkers proclaiming that they have “the best” Vietnamese sandwiches in Vancouver. Not that I want to hurt my coworker’s feelings, but my number 1 spot for Vietnamese sandwiches is still at Hen Long Supermarket in Surrey (reviews pending). Nevertheless, they do have pretty awesome sandwiches.
