Once again we were invited by Vaneats to try out their newest dining package at Suika. Suika is a great izakaya restaurant outside of downtown, having already been there before, I was quite excited to try this dining pass.
I think Harajuku Izakaya is the one izakaya in Whistler, and we wanted to have some fun on our first night on our past snowboarding trip.
Now I’ve finally been to each of the Hapa Izakaya locations in Vancouver. Although there isn’t a skytrain near by in Kitsilano, it’s still a pretty popular location. Walking in, it seemed like it was actually fairly popular with families. We saw 2-3 families (with kids) leaving while we were waiting for our table.
A couple weeks ago our good friend Mike had his birthday dinner at Suika Izakaya. We had a great time at Suika for Mike’s birthday, and we sampled quite a few dishes.
Me and some friends decided to go to Richmond for some random izakaya. Our first choice, Manzo on Alexandra was closed, we already been to Nan Chuu, so we kept driving down, and my friend spotted Koto Izakaya (Sushi & Robata). We went in, and looked at the menu, it wasn’t very izakaya-ish at least what I’m used to. It was more of a mix of sushi and robata as those sections were larger than the menu items I’d typically see in the more popular izakayas.
A couple weeks ago my friend took me to his buddy’s newly opened Koi Japanese Tapas Bar for dinner. This izakaya restaurant on Kingsway is super new. The space was kind of small, but the places had a really good vibe.
Our guest writer Kid loves Japanese grilled skewers, so when she visited, she hand picked to visit Zakkushi Charcoal Grill. Having already visited Zakkushi on Main Street, I knew she won’t be too majorly disappointed with the food. This time we visited their Denman location.
I usually stay away from Richmond’s “food-street” aka Alexandra Road because all I remember is that it’s very busy and hard to find parking around that area. This past week I went, and there was actually no one there. Kind of shocked me, but maybe I was only used to going there on weekend nights. I’ll have to go during weekdays more often, because theres a bunch of places there that I want to eat at. I finally got my chance to try out Nan Chuu, which is owned by the same people that brought us Gyoza King and G-Men Ramen (both really good restaurants as well).
Ocean West Coast in an izakaya and sushi restaurant on Granville that has been open for about a year. A friend recently redid their website and introduced us to them. We were invited to try out the food, and we finally made it over this past weekend.
Alpha Global is a small little Sushi/Izakaya restaurant slightly off of the heart of Yaletown. I actually haven’t even noticed this place, but I decided to go here for my birthday dinner with my friends. I made a reservation for 12 a week before, and they asked if I could provide them with a list of things we’d want to order because they have a small kitchen and would like to prep some of the food before hand.
I wanted to go to Toratatsu back in May for a friends birthday, but we had to settle for Wanoma Izakaya, which was the third option. However, I got to go to Toratatsu for another friend’s birthday in June. Toratatsu is another izakaya restaurant in the Denman/Robson area. We ordered a ton of food, but I’ll just go over the one I ate, or can even remember. My friend’s ordered the top 10, plus some additional food.
I never knew that there were so many other Izakaya places in Vancouver. I was only really familiar with Guu and Hapa, and only until recently I learned about Zakkushi. I was helping my friend look for a place for her birthday. Wanting to try new places, I found 3 Izakaya restaurants around Denman and Robson that I hadn’t been to. Unfortunately, we went to our last choice, Wanoma. This place is really tiny, and at the time was hosting two fairly large groups, ours of 10 and another across from us with probably about 10 too.
