Catch 122 Dine Out 2013

Catch 122 Dine Out 2013

February 12, 2013

My one and only Dine Out Vancouver for 2013 was at Catch 122. Like FollowMeFoodie, we aren’t very big fans of Dine Out, but I decided to go anyway with some friends. I’ll have to make another visit, as their regular menu appeals to me a lot more than these set menus. I also learned that Wildebeest is right beside it! A place that I’ve wanted to try for quite  a while.

EXP Restaurant + Bar

EXP Restaurant + Bar

EXP Restaurant + Bar is one of the newer kids on the block in Gastown. What’s so special about it? Well it’s a video game themed restaurant! So if you are a gamer nerd like me and my friends, this place probably appeals to you. Sadly, current liquor laws prohibit them from serving alcohol while allowing customers to play video games. That is their end goal though, and they are trying to fight that law. Hopefully they’ll win!

La Bodega is a pretty popular Spanish tapas restaurant in Downtown Vancouver. They offer lots of hot and cold dishes of different sizes. For some of the dishes, like the paella, you can get a tapas sized one or a full sized one. The place is cozy and pretty rustic looking.

On the hunt for more awesome poutine, a VancityBuzz reader mentioned that an alternative to Fritz for late night eats is Mean Poutine on Nelson and Granville. They are just a small little shop, that offer a lot of different flavours, and the price isn’t too bad. Besides the Standard Poutine, they also have Fried Chicken, Philly Cheesesteak, Mean Supreme, Mama’s Meatball, Southern BBQ, and even Candied Yam Poutine. Or you can also build your own. You can get some Hotdogs too.

I’ve wanted to go to Uva Wine Bar for a long time. My friend and I decided to grab some wine and snacks after our dinner at Nuba. We walked in and seated ourselves. There were menus on the tables, and shortly after we our orders were placed.

Cafe Nuba is a small little restaurant on Seymour. At this Nuba, you place your order at the cashier and then go find a seat. There isn’t ver much seating at all, and I think they do a lot more take out than eating in. Honestly, I prefer the cooler Nuba restaurant on W Hastings. Seems like this is more fast food.

New Peace Restaurant

This wasn’t really a planned trip, but we were walking downtown trying to think of a place to eat dinner. I recently saw the Diners, Drive-ins and Dives episode with Peaceful Restaurant and I remembered there was one located downtown on Davie, so we decided to walk over there. As we got there, we noticed their sign say New Peace. Did they call it New Peace because this is the second location?

Pivo Public House

Before going to Rogers Arena to choose our seats for this upcoming hockey season *crosses fingers*, we needed to kill some time and have some food. We chose Pivo Public House because it’s so close to the stadium. I’ve been past here a few times, and at times it is really busy, especially when their’s a big sporting event on. This time, it was really dead with just a big group on the patio, and one table inside.

Before Game 2 of the Stanley Cup Playoffs, I was looking for a quick place to grab a bite to eat so I can make it to Rogers Arena pretty early to watch the Canucks pregame warmups. My coworker reminded me of Dunn’s Famous and their Montreal Smoked Meat.

Market by Jean-Georges

February 15, 2012

This past weekend was a friends birthday, and I chose Market by Jean-Georges at the Shangri-La in Vancouver to celebrate. I have a friend who really enjoys it there, and I’ve been wanting to try it as well. We arrived at 7:30 and it wasn’t very busy at all, but the room filled up and then was almost empty by the time we left. Meaning, we had a very long dinner – mostly due to slow serivce, missing food, doubles of food, and other mix ups.
