My friend called Zippy’s the Hawaiian Denny’s. It’s open 24 hours, and has a huge menu with lots of different dishes, including all day breakfast.
I went for the Korean fried chicken with brown rice, and my friends ordered the Zip Pac, Omlette, ox tail soup, and fried chicken and chili. When I saw the Korean fried chicken I knew I wanted it, in hopes it would remind me of Bonchon in New York. Sadly, these pieces of fried chicken, were refried in sauce, and made it a bit dry. The sauce was pretty good – sticky and sweet, but the chicken was overcooked. Aside from brown rice, it also came with a really yummy mac salad.
The Zip Pac is one of their more popular dishes because it gives you a variety of their different meats – spam, fried chicken, fish, and teriyaki beef and it’s only $10. It also came with rice with salty seaweed flakes which was awesome. The Fried Chicken and Chilli was something my friend raved about before, and he ordered it again. The chicken is moist and crisp, and the chilli is just delicious, and go really well together. The Oxtail soup was also a hit, with meat that easily fell of the bone. It came with peanuts, and a grated ginger for a nice kick.
Zippy’s is a pretty good place to eat. I’d say it’s better than Denny’s, and they are super fast at serving you the food. I think we got our food in well under 10 minutes after ordering. This was also one of the cheaper meals we had, with most meals under $10.
They also have a bakery attached to the restaurant called Napolean’s. They have delicious pastries which you can order from your server. I think you save a bit of money if you order it yourself though on the way out.
