What’s Shakin’ Hilo

My friends and I stopped by What’s Shakin’ for lunch during our day trip to Hilo. This was one of my favorite restaurants on The Big Island, Hawaii.

This was a cute little place in almost in the middle of nowhere. The menu was really simple, burgers, sandwiches, and fresh fruit smoothies. The menu looked great, but we all decided to go with their daily lunch specials. Tuna Melt Sandwich and Spicy Taro Burger.

I had the Spicy Taro Burger, and it was one of the best vegetarian burgers I’ve ever had. The burger had great seasoning in the taro patty. It was only slightly spicy, it came with fresh lettuce, tomato and cucumber, it was SO Yummy. The lunch plate also came with a side of garden salad, fresh cut papaya, banana, and guava. I fell in love with it as soon as I saw it, nothing gets me more excited than fresh ingredients. Everything was delicious.

My friend had the Tuna Melt Sandwich, she also enjoyed it a lot.

We also tried some of their fresh fruit smoothies to go along with our lunch. Just a heads up, these smoothies were filling. They were so thick, it could be a lunch itself. And taste wise, well, they taste… healthy.

This is a place you have to visit in Hilo, Hawaii. The owner was super friendly. It’s a popular spot, and things do run out if you arrive late for lunch! It’s very vegetarian friendly, and prices were very reasonable, most of the dishes were under $10 dollars each.

  1. it was actually pretty spicy!! for all you non spicy eaters out there.

Good thing i ordered tuna melt, it was really good, and the fruits was the best part, it wasn’t just a small cup of fruit like all the other restaurants out there, but actual HUGE CHUNKS of them!
