Epic Fail.
If you walk on Robson street in Vancouver, you will not miss Tsunami Sushi. They are located right in the heart of the busy street, with big restaurant signs. So, in the midst of Christmas shopping this year, I finally went in to give it a try. I remember thinking, they’re on Robson, they’ve been around, they can’t be THAT bad. Now in retrospect, I should have kept walking, or visited the food court instead.
You have a choice of sitting at the bar, and grabbing sushi off from the boats that goes around the bar, or at a table. The boat concept seems good in theory as you get to start eating right away. This was very important because I was super hungry that night. But it was irrelevant to me when all the food looked unappetizing. It took me way too long for me to pick up my first dish – spicy tuna roll. I wasn’t too impressed with it. After the spicy tuna roll, I decided to order something off the menu, because it was just that hard to pick up a second dish from the boats.
My friend and I ordered gyoza, 2 tamago sushi, 2 inari sushi, and a spicy salmon roll. The spicy salmon roll is the worst I’ve ever eaten. The overall quality of all the dishes were just crap. Everything was not fresh, the rice is hard, the gyoza tasted like how it looks, crap. The only acceptable item was probably the green tea. We gave up on ordering more, because it was just too painful.
On top of the crap quality of food, the service was terrible. It took 20mins for them to make the food we ordered off the menu. The waitress stapled all of our receipts together, including the one I’m supposed to take home. Oh, and the food was overpriced, but frankly, that was the least of Tsunami Sushi‘s problems. I left angry, and still hungry.
With the number of Japanese restaurants in Vancouver, I cannot comprehend how this place still exists. Please don’t waste your money and time here, you would be better off with food court sushi.
Note: Do not eat here.
