For our last meal, we decided to visit Sunny Bank, which is Brisbane’s version of Richmond aka the place with all the Asian food. It was about a 30 minute drive from the city, but there was all types of Asian food in the area.
The hotpot price wasn’t that bad. All you can eat for $26 which is similar to the prices in Vancouver.
At Top Hot Pot, you get your own bowl and choice from 5 stocks. Each place at the table has it’s own electric element built right on the table. I like it like this because since I’m allergic to seafood, it’s less hassle for my friends to have to worry about putting seafood in the pot. We usually need at least two pots when I’m around…
They have a sauce station near the front where you can make your sauce from soy sauce, oyster sauce, chill sauces and oils, cilantro, green onions, sesame sauces, and more. The sauce wasn’t very well stocked though as when we went up the good ingredients like garlic, cilantro and green onion were pretty much empty. They did restock when we went to check again though.
They had a good selection of meats, noodles, tofu, seafood and veg. We ordered one of most of the meats, and the portion size was huge. They definitely aren’t stingy here with the meats. For some reason we didn’t seem to get all of the vegetables that we wanted though. The meats were easy to pick apart, and put in your pot and cooked pretty quickly.
I chose the mushroom broth, and it was pretty good. Lots of mushroom and other fungi in here with a nice aroma. It was a pretty mild flavour, so it let the meat stand out. The meat was still a bit frozen but it was still tasty.
You also get your choice of drink, and I recommend the wintermelon tea. It was delicious, and was very flavourful and nicely sweet. I wish I could get more of this drink back home.
