This blog doesn’t have enough reviews of Korean food, and I’m not sure why that is. For the record, I love Korean food and I have been seriously craving for Ddeokbokki for a while. I’m not sure why they are so hard to find in restaurants. Rice cake in spicy korean sauce is an easy dish to put on the menus right?
Because I have been talking about Deokbokki for so much, I got a friend to also crave for it, and luckily he knows where to get them: The House of Tofu Soup.
The menu was really small and simple. First item I ordered was the Ddeobokki, the dish it came with some deep fried dumplings at the bottom of the rice cakes which I didn’t really care about. The rice cakes was pan fried with spicy korean sauce and onions. It was a really simple dish, and it was so good. I love the chewiness of the rice cakes and the blend of semi sweet and spicy sauce. Craving satisfied!
We also ordered Seafood Pancake for appetizer. These were probably the fluffiest Korean pancakes I’ve ever had. It was thick, fluffy and had a really nice crispy crust without it being too greasy. It was packed with squid, shrimp and green onions.
Their speciality is tofu soup, so we ordered a Pork tofu soup and a mixed Tofu soup. The soup came with a ton of soft tofu, like A LOT. You are guaranteed to get a spoonful of tofu and other ingredients all the time. The broth was delicious however, I asked mine to be spicy, and it wasn’t spicy enough for me.
We also ordered Bibimbap and it was my favorite of the meal. The stone bowl was super hot, I didn’t have to wait too long for the rice at the bottom to crispy up, it was awesome.
Other items we ordered were Chop Chae (fried noodles) and Cold Noodles. They were both solid tasty dishes.
This is not a fancy restaurant, but they have the home made food feel. The service was good, they weren’t stingy on their free appetizers (kimchi and other pickled vegetables), they always asked us if we wanted more.
It’s a spot worth the visit and drive, if you love Korean food.
