While waiting for Pine State to open at 6PM, we needed to kill sometime. What better thing to do on Alberta St in Portland, than to look for another place to eat while we wait. We choose the Cheese Plate PDX, which is on a lot with 3 other food trucks.
Looking at the menu, we got excited to try the Grilled Cheese with Tomato, the Oregon Cheese Plate, and Cheese sticks. We love cheese! They only had half an order of cheese sticks left, so they were kind enough to give us the 3 cheese sticks fore free. The entire meal cost only $13. I’m used to seeing cheese plates starting at $15.
Anyway, the grilled cheese was cut into 5 pieces because she knew we were sharing. it was very buttery and cheesy. Nicely browned and crisp bread, and gooey aged cheddar inside. The tomato and basil aioli helped cut the cheesiness down a little bit, and it was really good.
The cheese plate came with 3 different Oregon cheeses – Feta, Smokey Blue, and Perrydale. All cheeses were quite nice, and pretty mild. They came with delicious cart made crackers that were crisp and went wonderfully with the cheeses. My favourite was probably the Perrydale, which is a mix of sheep and cows milk.
The cheese sticks were decent. They were very crisp, and the Fontina cheese melted and became a bit stringy. The breading was a little bit salty though. The tomato chutney was added a little sweetness.
