I haven’t been to a Sammy J Peppers for years now. It was kind of cool when we were in high school. I remember them having hot waitresses and lots of different spicy sauces. Me and my brother decided to go one day because we weren’t sure where to eat. I thought it was closer to work but it ended up being a 15 minute walk. When we got there for lunch, they had some group there giving a presentation about insurance. Kind of a strange thing to walk into.
We started with the steak bites, which were sterling silver peppery steak bites served with a peppery cream sauce. These were pretty good. These were cooked to about medium and were still quite tender (at least most of them were, some were chewy). It was really peppery and full of flavour. It was just a bit too much though, and I found myself getting sick of them.
For my entree I ordered the Four Cheese Penne with Blackened Chicken. I don’t typically order Cajun/Blackened chicken, because the word blackened just makes me think of burnt! Surprisingly though the chicken was good, flavourful and spicy. The pasta however was pretty weird and not a good combo. It was penne with a cheese sauce with some grated cheddar cheese, and green onions and bacon on top. It just didn’t work well. I think it was mainly the un-melted cheddar, and the fresh green onion that threw it off. Not a good pasta. The combo might work with nachos, or other dishes, but just didn’t work well here in my opinion.
My brother ordered a mushroom burger and he enjoyed it The burger names sound pretty good too, so if I ever do happen to eat here again, I’d probably just order that… I’d stay away from my pasta.
