Last weekend after we stopped by Hamburger Disco‘s pop up store on Main street to picked up some t-shirts, we went to the near by Rhizome Cafe to grab some brunch.
Most of the items on the menu are vegetarian, and the only meat available was salmon. For my breakfast, I uncharacteristically picked their eggs benedict, Eggs Rhizomedict because I was really curious about their house made squash sauce that they use instead of hollandaise.
The Eggs Rhizomedict had roasted red peppers and spinach. The squash sauce was a little strange at first, simply because my mind was still expecting hollandaise. But the more I ate it, the more I loved it. The sauce was really yummy, it was a bit sweet. I tasted mostly butternut squash. I had my Eggs Rhizomedict half salad and half roasted root vegetables. The roasted vegetables were yams and potatoes. The this was a savory breakfast, but there were a lot of sweetness from the squash sauce, roasted red pepper and yams.
Dee ordered the Rhizome Buttermilk Pancakes, which had 3 very fluffy pancakes. I liked these pancakes a lot. They were topped with sliced apples that has been caramelized a little. It’s a very simple dish, but also very yummy.
I really liked my breakfast there, and I’ll definitely come back. This is a great spot breakfast for vegetarians.
