Red Iguana was one of the places we were recommended to visit. Obviously it’s very popular with a line up going outside at 1:30 on a weekday. Luckily they have a second location less than a 5 minute drive away called Red Iguana 2 offering the exact same food.
Like many Mexican restaurants there are tons of items on the menu. I’ve been craving nachos for a couple weeks, and this was was an awesome way to satisfy my craving. The Killer Nachos are topped with refried beans, pork chile verde, house made pork chorizo, melted jack cheese, pico de gallo, guacamole, sour cream, black olives, green onions and jalapeños. Honestly, I thought it was vegetarian and it was so good. The beans really made it awesome. The chips were still nice and crisp, and there was a good amount of toppings.
I heard they had good moles, but many had peanuts, so I chose the Mole Verde with Chicken. The mole sounded delicious with Fresh chile poblano, jalapeno, blended with pepitas, sesame seeds, basil, onions, lettuce, zucchini, and avocados. It tasted fresh, but wasn’t very spicy, and actually a bit bland. The chicken wasn’t really seasoned well. I’m sure the other moles are good, but this didn’t have strong flavours. It also came with a fried plantain, as well as beans and rice. The beans are awesome.
My friends ordered a variety of combo platters – The Red Iguana Platter was huge. It came with One-cheese enchilada, a Taco a la Iguana, a beef flauta topped with guacamole and sour cream, a chile relleno and a beef tostada. I think the best part was the beef flauta. This was a crazy amount of food for the price, but you get to taste so many things. Our friend usually can eat a lot, but he barely dented this combo.
Ann ordered the Topitio Platter which had One chicken, beef or cheese enchilada, chile relleno and beef or chicken flauta topped with sour cream and guacamole. She loved the platter, but her favourite was the flauta. She actually was able to finish!
We also tried Ramon’s Famous Fish tacos which my friends really enjoyed as well. That’s the second dish that was completely finished.
The other dish was a cheesy breakfast dish with eggs and bacon
And a saucy chicken dish
When going to a Mexican restaurant, no matter how full I am, I love to eat a Churro or Flan. Luckily they had the flan here, and it was very smooth and delicious. Not too sweet, with a nice caramel, and some strawberries. It was delicious.
Note that when driving to this location they have a second parking lot that’s about a 30 second walk to the restaurant. Don’t get tricked, this is the second lot, and there may be tons of parking at the restaurant. The staff here was also super friendly.
