Novo Pizzeria and Wine Bar

Having some really good pizza recently at Famoso, Novo Pizzeria and Wine Bar was another Neapolitan Pizza joint that has gotten really good reviews, and highly recommended by friends. I really wanted to try this place out for a while now. I finally got the chance by recommending it for a friends birthday dinner. Novo tweeted that they were happy to set up large parties, so I tweeted back, and they quickly grabbed my info. Although I changed my reservation and kept adding more people even two days before they were very accommodating. We had a large party of 18.

Looking at the menu, I knew I wanted to try lots of things! Sadly I did miss out on a few, but I was still able to order 3 items for myself, and try some other pizzas as well. I ordered the Burrata to start because I’ve been hearing so much about it, and for my mains I ordered the Mushroom Pizza, and the Gnocchi with warm sage butter. I did enjoy my dishes. The Burrata came with some grilled bread, arugula, and tomatoes and dressed with balsamic vinegar and olive oil.  The soft, rich, creamy burrata was delicious with the charred, crisp bread. The arugula added a nice peppery and bitter flavour, and the tomatoes, a nice freshness. I loved each bite. The mushroom pizza was really good too, and had plenty of fontina cheese and truffled mushrooms. The truffle oil really stood out. The pizza dough was very thin and still crisp. I think I prefer the tomato sauce at Famoso though, as it was much more vibrant. The Gnocchi was served just the way I like it. Pan fried too add a nice crisp to it. The butter sage sauce was delicious, though maybe a bit salty. We all enjoyed it though. I don’t know if I would want a whole plate to myself though as it is quite filling, but sharing it is definitely a great idea.

Since I went for a birthday party, we ordered a bunch of dishes. My friends also ordered the Sicilian Meatballs, Calamari, and Antipasti Board. At first my friend said he’d share some of the Meatballs with me, but after the first bite he took that back and ate them all. I guess they were that good. The Antipasti Board was also quite big for the small order. It received lots of praise as well.

We ordered many of the pizzas, and everyone really enjoyed them. Many said it was the best pizza they have had in Vancouver. The Calzone was really nice with the buffalo ricotta, and italian sausage. It was quite oily though. I also tried the Margherita and the Salami and Olives. The margherita was pretty good, but this is where I really noticed that I preferred the tomato sauce at Famoso more. The salami and olives was pretty good too. The salami was awesome.

We had a really good experience at Novo Pizzeria. They also have a pretty good wine and beer list. The service was great, and the food was delicious too.
