When I visited NY I knew I had to try one of David Chang’s Momofuku Restaurants. I chose Noodle Bar because I was craving ramen, and it was probably the cheapest option. They don’t take reservations, but they do allow you to put your name down, and they’ll text you when your table is ready. That’s awesome. We were able to go to a bar and have some drinks while waiting.
The place was busy, as we had a 45 minute wait on a Sunday night. Once I received my text message, I was seated within a few more minutes right infront of the open kitchen. We were getting really hungry just from watching the chefs at work.
We started with 2 orders of Pork Buns, and we ordered the Goat Ramen, and a couple of Momofuku Ramens. The Pork Buns came with two luscious pieces of perfect melt in your mouth pork belly. The Pork Belly was cooked perfectly, with such an excellent flavour. It came with a hoisin sauce, green onions, and some cucumber. One of the highlights of the trip.
The Momofuku Ramen was served in a nice sweet and salty broth, with more pork belly, shredded pork shoulder, and a poached egg. The Pork Belly was just as tender, but not as flavourful, but still delicious. The shredded pork shoulder added a different texture, with a different flavour. The poached egg was cooked perfectly, as it leaked into the broth. I really like the addition of the nori as it added a different type of saltiness to the soup. Of course, the noodles were cooked just the way I liked it. Not too soft, with a good bite left in it.
Momofuku Noodle Bar has a Fried Chicken meal that I really wanted to try. However, you do have to reserve, and you need 4-8 people. Unfortunately we only had 3 people in a party, and I wasn’t able to reserve. Next time I guess.
