On my first night out, after ice skating at the Mall of Asia, we honestly had no clue where to eat. We saw some restaurants that caught our eye, but honestly couldn’t decide. We walked outside where there is a pretty big strip of restaurants to eat at. We decided on Holy Cow! Steak Ranch & American Grill.
This is a really Americanized affordable steakhouse, with a real Western cowboy theme. We each got different meals that came with steak and another protein along with a side and some gravy (they love gravy here, but really, who doesn’t?). At this point I’m really not sure about the quality of their meats, so I ordered a steak medium, along with ribs. Here, I think they still really like to see their meat cooked well done because they are scared to see blood and scared of getting sick. My parents are still kind of this way, but my dad is slowly changing and has gone from always ordering Well Done, to Medium Well, and now he’ll order Medium. Anyways, my friends ordered steak and prawns, and also steak and chicken. Each meal came out to only about $10 each and also came with two side, garlic rice and buttered veggies.
The steaks that came out were 150g or about 5oz. Although it was cooked medium, the cut of meat was pretty tough. I don’t think this place serves very good cuts of meat, or not very high quality. There wasn’t much fat content. It was seasoned OK, but having to chew my steak a lot more than I’m used to is a real downer. They gave us some gravy, but I’m not used to putting thick, KFC style gravy over my steaks, but it did help with the chewing. The ribs was a half rack and I liked it a lot more than the steak. The ribs pretty much fell off the bone and had a nice smokey flavour to it. My friends enjoyed the prawns, and the chicken was pretty good too. They loved the gravy, and even ordered extra servings of it. The rice was good, and not soggy, and the vegetables which kind of seemed like frozen veggies were still kind of crisp and not soggy either.
I didn’t really do any research on this place, or really look for better steakhouses in the area. I’d stay away from this place if you really want a good steak though.
