Hapa Izakaya is probably one of the better places for Japanese tapas in Vancouver. This is one of my favorite izakaya restaurants.
I went to their Robson location with a party of 5, and we were offered a really nice big round table to sit at. The seating was spacious, and the furniture was really nice with dark wood tables and cushioning seats.
We ordered 10 tapas along with a pitcher of Strawberry Sake Margarita. The margarita was good, but nothing special. The food on the other hand, had pretty presentations, and was very very good.
Some of the dishes that I enjoyed a lot was the Negitoro, and Maguro Roll. The tuna on both dishes were fresh, well marinated and well seasoned. Also the Tuna Carpaccio was really good together with the bread it came with.
The Chicken Karaage was probably the best Japanese fried chicken I’ve ever had. The meat was juicy, and the batter was really crispy and really well seasoned. Together with the mayo and a drizzle of lemon juice, it was pretty damn tasty.
The Okonomiyaki was very flavorful. It had pieces of octopus and cabbage in it, with a lot of fish flakes on top. It tasted authentic, and it was one of my favorites of the night. The other warm food that I enjoyed were the Gyoza, and the Grilled Saba.
I didn’t eat the Beef Tataki because I don’t eat raw beef, but my friends all said it was really tasty as well.
I liked this place a lot. It’s a really good place to get a drink and get some tapas after work. The atmosphere is modern, clean and relaxing. The staff was friendly and helpful.
Note: They have 3 locations: Robson, Kits, and Yaletown. No green teas here. I settled for Oolong tea.
Tip: Try start with the cold dishes first, and work you way to warm dishes.

if you’re there with a large group, they have a set menu. it’s really good. =)
