After watching 4th of July fireworks, my friends and I hopped into a cab and asked the cab driver to bring us to “The best deep dish pizza in town”. The cab driver dropped us off at Gino’s East and reassured us, that this place has the best pizza in Chicago.
This was a big pizzeria, we were seated on the second floor. I loved the interior feel in the restaurant, brick walls covered with scribbles from the customers, it was definitely a place for younger crowds compared to Giordano’s.
Good thing about getting a full deep dish pie in Chicago is that you can do half orders of the type of pizza you want. Between the 5 of us, we ordered half Gino’s East Supreme, and half Meaty Legend.
My friend told me, every pizzeria in Chicago does their own little version of deep dish pizza, and he was right! The deep dish was almost completely different from Giordano’s, The crust was golden, in sort of a corn bread/meal like consistency. I liked the crust a lot, it was crispy, and an little flaky, I never had something like this before. The Gino’s Eat Supreme had pretty much everything in it, pepperoni, green peppers, onions and mushrooms. The most important ingredient, that made the pizza super awesome, was the cheese. The cheese was SO fresh. It held all the toppings together really well, there were no gaps in the pizza. I think it’s an understatement to say the pizza is delicious here, because it was so badass. I loved it, I loved it a lot.
The Meaty Legend had pepperoni, Italian sausage, Canadian bacon and bacon. Unfortunately, I didn’t make it to the Meaty Legend, after having the supreme, but I’d imagine it was just as awesome as the supreme.
One thing bad about deep dish pizza is that one can really eat and enjoy 1 slice, even when it’s really really good. I really wish I had the stomach to get 2nd slice, especially when you got the pizza sitting there staring at you. If you are visiting Chicago, this is the place not to be missed.
