DD Mau

I never heard of DD Mau until a couple weeks ago until Dee & my friends kept going on and on about DD Mau on our walk to Minami for dinner. I thought it was some kind of inside joke because DD Mau sounds kind of funny when it’s said repeatedly, but it turned out to be a real vietnamese sandwich shop in Yaletown. A few days later, I was back here to grab a quick bite with my friends.

Given that the location is in Yaletown, I was expecting somewhat fancy-fied Vietnamese sandwiches, and I was right. Besides the Classic vietnamese sandwich, there were BBQ duck and Crispy pork options as well. The sandwiches were made on the spot and I grabbed a BBQ duck sandwich to go.

This was officially the most expensive vietnamese sandwich I’ve ever had. At around $12, I thought this better be the best duck sandwich ever. It was pretty delicious. The BBQ duck meat was tender and warm, a nice contrast to the cold vinegary daikon and carrot slaw.

I traded my other half of duck sandwich with my friend for the classic sandwich and it was tasty as well. It’s got all the classic vietnamese sandwich ingredients like ham, liver pate, cucumber and cilantro. I really liked the fact that it had a lot of those vietnamese slaw. This classic sandwich was around $7.

I was stuffed after eating the sandwich. I think I am just used to paying less than $5, sometimes $4 for a vietnamese sub. Even though the sandwich here was bigger than normal, and quite good, it still didn’t make me thing that it was ‘worth it’. It is still however a nice addition to the area.
