Chez Meme Baguette Bistro

I’ve been wanting to come to Chez Mem Baguette Bistro for a long time. I’ve read very nice things about them. I also heard that this small place gets extremely busy, and that you are almost guaranteed to wait. On top of that, the location is really of out of my way, so I’d have to go there just for the food.

I actually visited twice. First time was on a weekend, when my friend insisted on going despite my warning that there will be a long wait. When we got there, the place was full, and there was a 45 min wait. We left without getting food. Hate to say I told you so.

Second time we visited on a Monday, at 10:30 am, no trouble getting seats this time. For my brunch I ordered the Bourguignon Baguette with daily soup: mushroom soup.

The Bourguignon Baguette definitely the item to order here. The braised beef was very tender and flavorful. It was fixed with some onions and a nice layer of dijon mustard. The baguette was soft, and it was really easy to bit into the sandwich. It was one of the best sandwiches I’ve had in Vancouver.

Another sandwich we tried was the Snitzel. It was breaded pork with lemon caper mayo, tomato and lettuce. This sandwich was also really good, very different from the beef sandwich. The pork was tender, and it’s got a noticeable saltiness to it, it wasn’t too salty although there was just a tad too much of the lemon caper mayo.

Our friend ordered the Baguette Willy, an open sandwich with scrambled eggs, ham, and cheese sauce on baguette. This was a really nice breakfast. The cheese sauce was awesome. Again, there was a noticeable saltiness to it, but it wasn’t overwhelming.

We also had a side order of Onion Soup.  The soup looked really appetizing with all that melted cheese, however, the soup was too salty for me. If I had the soup by itself with a baguette, I’d be fine, but combined it with my sandwiches, it was too much salt.

The place started to fill up around 11 am. The best bet is to come early, call before hand to check the wait time or even order your food for take out. The bourguignon sandwich is something I’d crave for.
