This weekend we went to Chambar for dinner with our guest writers to celebrate year 1 of MePlusFood.com
We had a great meal there that lasted 3 hours from appetizers to desserts.
For appetizers we tried the Poutine, Grilled Ostrich, Foie Gras, and Bison Carpaccio.
The highlight for appetizers was definitely the Bison Carpaccio. Each slice was super thin and they were all topped with different toppings such as deep fried taro chips, soba noodles, and pickled vegetables. It was an Asian influenced dish, if you like Japanese food, you’ll love this like we did. It was amazing.
The Grilled Ostrich‘s plating was really cool. It had chips standing up on the sides of the grilled meat, it had that cool 3-D look. My first impression of ostrich meat, it taste like beef. The Poutine was not a bad appetizer either. The fries were really crispy and not dried out. It was a different kind of poutine, it wasn’t drenched with gravy, instead it was layered with blue cheese and a balsamic vinegar-like sauce. Tasty.
For my main I had the Roasted Duck Breast. The presentation of the dish was again, super nice. The duck was really really delicious, tender and juicy. It came with a little piece of hazelnut gastrique that had a salty taste, it was really good with the duck meat. It was also served with goat cheese gnocchi, and unfortunately the amount of goat cheese on it was just too heavy for my taste.
The other mains we ordered were the Mussels, Steak, and Braised Lamb Shank. They were all really nice, and the portions were pretty big for the mussels and the lamb shank. If I had to pick the best protein from the entrées, the Roasted duck still wins.
Ok I thought the appetizers and the entrees were tasty, but the desserts were even awesomer. For dessert we ordered the Chef’s Selection, Le Café Belge, Pot de Creme, and Pudding Aux Pommes.
The Chef’s Selection came with a 4 different kinds of desserts and chocolate truffles on the side. For $20, this was a good option for sharing with friends.
My favorite dessert was the Pot De Créme. The pot de créme was milk chocolate and lavender flavored. It was really light, and I enjoyed the lavender more and more as I kept eating. It was so good I finished everything including the ganache filled biscuits it came on the side. This was something I’ll be craving for in the future.
The Le Cafe Belge was also a really nice dessert for chocolate lovers. The best part of this dessert was the espresso cake at the bottom of the layer, so good.
We were all really impressed with Chambar. The food was great, and the staff was amazing. Our glasses of water were never less than half full. There were at least 3 different waiters bringing food to our table, and they all knew exactly who ordered what. It wasn’t hard to see why this restaurant is so many people’s favorite.

This is my coworker’s favourite place of all time. She said it’s an awesome place because they have such an awesome selection of beer and of course awesome food, service, and atmosphere.
Foie gras terrine – very mild flavoured but a really smooth and thick texture similar to icing. I didn’t like it that much. I like foie gras mousse better. I still want a big hunk of just plain foie gras.
My lamb was OK. The shank isn’t my favourite piece of the lamb, but it had some very good Moroccan flavours. It came in a tajine, and had strong ginger, and cinnamon flavours. It was served with couscous and eggplant. The meat fell off the bone and was very tender and moist. But there was a lot of fat and other things you wouldn’t want to eat.
I loved my dessert. It was an apple bread pudding with two different sauces. Creme anglaise with pecans, and a chocolate sauce. Some pieces of the bread pudding had a nice crunch to it. This was my favourite dessert.
