I never knew Carver’s Steakhouse existed in Richmond until I had my Christmas dinner there. I was told that they had really good steaks there, but I still went in with semi-low expectation so that I won’t be disappointed. And it worked, I wasn’t disappointed at all.
I went with the $39 dollars 3 course meal with 10oz steak ($36 dollars if it’s with a 6oz steak). But the meal is extra $10 dollars if it’s with a signature starter. I had the Grapefruit glazed scallops & black tiger prawns for appetizer, 10oz Fillet Mignon, and Molten chocolate cake for dessert. The grapefruit glazed scallops & tiger prawns was a signature starter. This dish was OK, it was a little dry, and had a very smokey taste to it. I had some of my friend’s crab cakes appetizer, and it was much better than the scallops and prawns.
The steak was delicious. It came on a really hot plate, so I had to be careful not to touch the plate for the first 5 minutes or so. The meat was really tender, juicy and soft; really easy to cut with your knife. I asked for a medium steak, and it was cooked perfectly. I enjoyed it a lot. The steak only comes with a some season vegetables, we also ordered a few side dishes ($7 dollars each) to go with the steak. The garlic mash potatoes was worth a note because was also really delicious; good match with the steak.
My molten chocolate cake was awesome. I was pretty stuffed from the appetizers and steak, but I couldn’t stop eating my chocolate cake until I finished it. The cake was moist, and it has liquid chocolate center, with raspberry and white chocolate sauce on top. So good, so yum.
I really enjoyed my dinner here. The ambiance was nice, the chairs were comfortable. The service was friendly, and they really tried to go beyond customer’s expectations. We forgot to bring a camera for our dinner, so the manager went out and bought a disposable camera for us. That was pretty nice. We were also given a complimentary small salmon appetizer from the kitchen.
They have plenty of free parking for the restaurant. So if you’re looking for an upscale dining experience but don’t want to fight parking issues in downtown, you should come try this place.
