Campagnolo Roma

Campagnolo Roma is one of the restaurant that has been on my wish list for a long time. I finally made it here for dinner with some friends over the Victoria Day long weekend.

This place was a lot smaller than I expected, and very busy. The service was slow at first, but it improved as our night went on.

I had the Rigatoni all’amatriciana which was rigatoni pasta in cured pork in tomato sauce. The very first thing I noticed was how perfectly the pasta was cooked. It had the perfect bite and there was just enough sauce to coat all the pastas. The tomato sauce was light, slightly salty, but wasn’t overwhelmed by the smokey cured pork. It was a very simple yet delicious dish.

One of my friend ordered the Spaghetti carbonara. I had a taste of this pasta before I ate mine, it had the same cured pork as the Rigatoni all’amatriciana, but it tasted a lot saltier. You’d need quite a bit of water to get thru this pasta, and it wasn’t just us, the table beside us thought their Spaghetti carbonara was salty as well. Other than the saltiness, the pasta had a nice hint of spiciness from the black pepper, and again the noodles were cooked perfectly. Cut the salt, this could be a very comforting pasta.

We also had the pizza special of the day: Funghi Pizza. This pizza had a lot of mushrooms and fresh arugula. It was quite tasty and also had a little bit of spiciness. The thin crust for the most part was really good, but about 1/3 of it was burnt on the bottom.

We had a nice dinner here in general. My favorite thing was probably the al-dente pasta noodles, they were really good! I also like the simplicity of the pastas. Even though the meal was on the salty side, I’d come back to try their other dishes.
