I first learned about Bunk Sandwiches on Diners Drive-Ins and Dives on the food channel. Guy Fieri makes an excellent sandwich salesman.
Like always, when I’m excited about eating at a new restaurant, I wanted to try everything. I got 2 sandwiches for myself, and they were the Local Tomato, and Meatball Parmigiano Hero. Dee and our friend got the Pork Belly Cubano and Tuna Melt.
Seating was quite limited at Bunk, we were sitting at the bar facing the open kitchen where they made sandwiches. All sandwiches came on a tray with a side of chips.
The Local Tomato ($8) was a vegetarian sandwich. It had tomato, roasted peppers, mozzarella, basil and arugula. This sandwich was sooo good. The bread was toasted perfectly with melted cheese and sweet roasted peppers. I loved the basil and the fresh and lightly dressed arugula. So delicious. Hands down one of the best sandwiches I’ve ever had.
The Meatball Parmigiano Hero ($8) was a really simple sandwich with big flavors. It had 2 huge meatballs, and topped with tomato sauce and lots of cheese. The meatballs were really juicy, and had very nice spices in it. There was just the right about of tomato sauce, the cheese was really nicely melted. Go hungry if you plan to eat more than 1 sandwich, because this meatball sub will fill you up fast.
The staff were super nice here, we were greeted by at least 3 people in the kitchen while sitting at the bar. The the sandwiches were amazing. This would the the kind of place I would visit everyday for lunch if I live in the area. Don’t leave Portland without visiting Bunks!
