On our first full day in Sydney, we decided to go to Bourke Street Bakery in Surry Hills before heading off to Manly Beach. This place seems to be very popular, so we decided on making the 20 minute walk from our hotel to see how good their baked goodes were.

This is the original Bourke Street Bakery location, and there are now quite a few others around Sydney.

Bourke Street Bakery is a popular place in Surry Hills. I ordered the Spinach Mushroom Quiche, which was still warm but still came out pretty quick. I found it to be under seasoned though. There wasn’t much flavour at all. The egg was kind of crumbly, but the spinach and mushrooms were tender. The Chicken Meat Pie wasn’t that good either. it had a strong ketchup taste.

They had something similar to a bagel, but they didn’t have butter or cream cheese. They served it with jam. It was pretty good. It’s thinner than a bagel, and very crispy.

My favourite of the dishes was the carrot cake. It was really good. The cake was light and airy and the top was had a very good crispy texture. Really liked it, and the frosting was sweet and creamy.

The ordering area is fairly cramped, but they some outdoor seating. The staff was also friendly. We weren’t fans of the quiches, or meat pies, but the other baked goods and breads were better.
