We wandered to Bella Gelateria for dessert after Dee’s birthday dinner last week. One thing I immediately liked about Bella Gelateria was that they open relatively late on a Friday (11pm).
We arrived just a little past 10pm and there were still a line up to get the ice cream. Some of the flavors there were Dark Chocolate, Hazelnut, Pistachio, and Espresso. I saw Bacio on the menu and I just could not pass it up. Bacio was dark chocolate and hazelnut.
You can ordered 1, 2 or 3 flavors with different pricing. I ordered 1 flavor at the cashier, but by the time I got to the ice cream counter, the guy behind the bar told me they’ve ran out of Bacio. He asked me about my second choice of flavor, I answered hazelnut & cashews, which they also ran out. After an awkward laugh, he decided to give me 2 different flavors to make up for not having anything I wanted. I ended up getting chocolate, and hazelnut, 2 flavors for the price of 1, w00t!
I didn’t really have much expectations for ice creams here, there are so many gelato shops in Vancouver, and they all taste pretty much the same to me. Bella Gelateria was not like the other gelato places. My hazelnut and chocolate ice cream was really yummy. I could taste the difference on my first lick. The ice creams were so creamy and smooth. The hazelnut flavor was really intense, reminded me a little bit of ferrero rocher. The dark chocoalte ice cream was also really good. Even though I wasn’t able to get the Bacio, I think getting hazelnut and chocolate together was a good combination.
The ice creams here melts really fast. I guess that’s a good sign for fresh ice cream. I have to say I was pretty impressed with the ice creams here, I liked it a lot.
The staff were super friendly, but I am probably a little biased because I got an extra flavor for free. We stuck around a little bit after their closing time at 11pm, and they were still letting people in to get ice cream even past their hours, that was pretty cool.
The quality of the ice cream was definitely high. The portion size was pretty small for $4.95 for 1 flavor of ice cream. It was a little pricey, but it’s something nice and worth it to spoil yourself a little sometimes.
Note: Some flavors may run out near the end of the day.
