Beachside Forno

Beachside Forno was one of the restaurants I wanted to try for Dineout Vancouver because they had macaroni and cheese and carpaccio, and it was only a $18 menu. Considering your choices, that $18 is a steal. Unfortunately, we went for brunch one weekend and they only offered the dine out menu during dinner.

I ordered the Forno Grilled Cheese & Short Rib Sandwich and also the Macaroni and Cheese. Beipas ordered a fresh fruit plate and the Egg White Frittata. Our other friend ordered the Short Rib Benny. Yup, we love the short rib.

My sandwich had white cheddar cheese with arugula, pickled onions, and short rib on a very buttery sour dough bread. First thing, was that it was very buttery sour dough bread. Good start. The bread was very crisp and not squished. The meat wasn’t too fatty but it was very tender and already shredded. I’ve seen a lot of arugula in sandwiches recently and it was very a good choice. The macaroni and cheese, I wouldn’t even really consider it a macaroni and cheese because for one, they used a penne, and was most just like a creamy sauced pasta with cheese melted on top. They added some ham and peas on top too. That being said, it was still a good dish. It had chunky cubes of ham which gave a nice smokey flavour and a nice firm texture.

The frittata was light and airy and Beipas really enjoyed it. She doesn’t like yolk too much, so she was really happy that it was all egg whites. It came mixed with pesto and mushroom. The short rib benny was served on a bed of crispy shredded hash browns. The hollandaise was sweet, and it was a really nice combination. Very different, and very good.

The service was really nice, and they have a nice patio over looking Ambleside park. They have tons of free parking just off the main street.

  • The frittata was awesome. The arugula on top added nice peppery flavor, really fresh tasting and nice.

I was a bit disappointed with the fruit plate though. For $8, I expected more than that. Twisted Fork Bistro still has the best fruit plate.
