Just before going to the Canucks game, Dee and I walked into Back Forty for a quick dinner. This place seemed like a popular pub/restaurant for hockey game goers. The menu consists of lots of BBQ items, but either of us got anything BBQ for dinner.
I went and got the Bucket of Buttermilk Fried Chicken, but before that we shared a Deep Fried Brussel Sprouts appetizer.
The brussel sprouts were deep fried and coated with garlic chili oil. I really liked the crispiness on the outer part of the brussel sprouts. The garlic chili oil wasn’t particularly spicy, the lemon juice from the lemon wedges was nice to cut through the greasiness.
The Bucket of Buttermilk Fried Chicken was not a bucket of KFC style chicken as I had imagined. This was a fancy fried chicken with boneless chicken thighs, hot sauce, chicken jus, coleslaw, and mixed green salad. The chicken was very crispy while the inside stayed moist. I liked it a lot with the chicken ju and hot sauce that was given on the side. There were about 4 pieces of chicken in the bucket, and the portion was just right for me with the coleslaw and salad.
Dee had the Baked Mac and Cheese with smoked bacon. We bought thought it was kind of bland, and needed to be more cheesy. Tough to find good mac and cheese in this town.
