If you’re looking for a casual place to get drinks in the evening, Alibi Room is great place to do so.
My friends brought me there on a Thursday evening, and the place was packed. We waited for about 30min to get a table, but that was OK because we were able to sit at the bar to grab a couple drinks first.
They have a large selection of wines and beers. There were these stars beside some of the beer names, they were the ratings for bitterness of the beer. More stars, more bitter. I was in the mood for a light beer, and the waiter suggest the King Heffy from Howe sound brewing; no stars besides this beer. I liked it, it was fruity, and a little peppery.
As for dinner, I decided to just get the Charcuterie Plate from appetizers. My friends got the Lamb Sirloin Salad, and Pork Belly Sandwich.
The Charcuterie plate had a selection of cold cuts. It had smoked ham, salami, house made mustard, Berkshire pork country pate, pickles and pickled fennel. It also came with a plate of breads. This was a good appetizer to snack on during my dinner. The meats were really nice, and weren’t too salty. I didn’t really enjoy the breads at all. They weren’t warm, and they were hard and chewy.
The lamb from the Lamb Sirloin Salad was really tender and good flavors. I wished the meat was a little warmer, but then again, it was a salad. It also had chickpeas and potatoes which my friend thought were a little undercooked.
We weren’t planning on getting dessert until the waiter told us the dessert for the night was Chocolate Fondant. The Chocolate Fondant came with hazelnut brittle and whipped cream. The fondant itself was still in it’s baking cup. It look a lot like a souffle at first. And the center sunk fairly quickly when it got to our table. Not sure if it was supposed to sink. The dessert was nice, the fondant had a nice gooey chocolaty center. The brittle was really hard, but if you can manage to bite a corner off, the subtle saltiness was a nice compliment to the sweet fondant.
I really liked how this place was casual and laid back, and their selection of drinks. I will definitely return.
