Adorabelle Tea Room

Adorabelle Tea Room is a new place to go for High Tea in the Steveston area. My friend saw a friend post pictures on Facebook of the place, so she really wanted to go. My friend currently lives in Australia, and she says the prices of high tea there are usually about $50. At Adorabelle it was only $23 before tax and tip. The decor is a bit more modern than the places I’ve been to, though quite girly still. There were lots of pinks and whites, and didn’t seem old fashioned.

With the $23 3-tier tea menu, each person gets 4 tea sandwiches, two fresh baked scones with cream and berry preserves, and five house-made sweets, and of tea pot of your choice.

For our tea sandwiches we got a egg salad roll, waldorf chicken salad sandwich, cucumber/radish, and a smoked salmon and cream cheese roll. The bread was all very soft and light, and they were all very nice. The egg salad roll was perfectly creamy with small chunks of the egg white. I think it could’ve used a bit more salt though. The chicken waldorf was probably the heaviest. Surprisingly I enjoyed the cucumber and radish sandwich. So simple, but really nice. My friend liked the smoked salmon roll.

The scones were OK, and both had a similar flavour. They were a bit dense, but went really well with the cream and strawberry preserves. I prefer the really savoury buttery scones at Adonia, or the light and fluffy blueberry scone from Avenue Bakery.

I didn’t get to try all of the desserts, but I did like what I did try. My favourite was probably the Earl Grey shortbread. It was buttery with a really nice texture and slight Earl Grey taste. I also enjoyed the strawberry and cream.

Surprisingly, I was kind of full at the end of this, but then again I don’t eat that much at this time of the day. The staff was very friendly, and described each item really well. They even wore white gloves to keep everything nice and clean. They also had felt-like covers/insulators for the teapots to help keep the tea warm longer. High tea is a really good time to catch up with friends while enjoying tea and dainty sandwiches. The atmosphere is a lot nicer than other places I’ve been too, and also a lot more modern.
