Last Winter, we had two snowboarding weekends in Whistler. On the first trip, 21 Steps was packed. On the second weekend trip, we were able to reserve a spot for our big group of 14.
We ordered a lot of things from the menu. To Start, I ordered Wings ($9). My friends ordered Bacon Wrapped Filets ($12), Sambal & Masala Seared Scallops ($12), Steamed Mussels ($12), Star Anise and Orange Braised Pork Ribs ($9) and Baked Mushroom Caps ($9) to start. Yah, my wings never came. However, it seemed like everyone else’s appetizers turned out pretty good. Another one of my friend’s ordered the wings and enjoyed the Asian flavours. They asked if I wanted some, but I denied, because I thought my order was still coming.
For my main, I ordered the Italian Sausage Pasta with Penne ($18). I was really surprised, and this dish was really good and filling. Perfect to re-energize after a day of snowboarding. The pasta was cooked al dente with a good bite, and their was plenty of Italian sausage. So much sausage that I had some left over when I finished the pasta. The tomato sauce was a bit creamy, and there was a good amount of parmesan cheese sprinkled on top. It was just the right amount of richness. My friend’s ordered the Lamb Chops ($29), Baby Back Ribs ($25), Wild BC Salmon Filet ($27), 10 oz New York Steak ($30), Ocean Wise Alaskan Grey Cod ($25). I think everyone was pretty pleased with their food too, but the salmon came out a bit dry. The lamb chops were awesome.
A lot of my friend’s have been waiting for this post thinking I would totally rip 21 Steps apart because I didn’t receive my wing order but still got charged. I was mad at the time, but after finishing up my main, and being happy with it, I wasn’t as mad. I was kind of glad that I didn’t pay an extra $10 for food that I probably wouldn’t have finished. I wish I tried them though. They did end up taking the wings off my bill, so I didn’t have to pay for it.
