China Airlines, Business Class

On my flight to Singapore from Taiwan, I was lucky enough to be upgraded to Business class by China Airlines.

Besides the very spacious and almost 180 degree reclined seat, personal slippers, extra movie selections and very nice flight attendants, the highlight of my 4.5 hour flight was the food!

It starts before I board the plane, Business class flyers are invited to wait for their flights at the priority lounge. In the lounge, there’s free snacks and drinks, alcohols included.

Once I was seated, I was greeted by the flight attendent by my last name, and was offered my first drink and snacks to wait for everyone else to board the plane.  I was on business class once before from Vancouver to Taiwan, and was offered champagne, but on this flight I was offered water and juice.

When we reached 10,000 feet with the seat belt signs off, I was given a menu. The menu had 3 courses, where I get to choose my main. There was also a list of drinks for appetizer, main and dessert. Oh and you also get to eat with real plates and cutlery on a table cloths.

The menu changes from flight to flight but the overal quality was much better than economy class. You can ask for more food if you want to, but I was pretty stuffed after the 3 course meal. There are also unlimited booze including cocktails, wines, beer, whiskey, and port; all you can drink.

Flying business class makes a huge difference, especially when it is a long haul flight. I think everyone should take it at least once in their life time, and if you are going to spoil yourself, pick a 6 hour + flight. A comfortable flight makes it seem so much shorter. I’d take a free upgrade again anytime.
