On our second day of boarding, we chose Milestones for lunch. It’s also in the Blackcomb Upper Village right across from Merlin’s. This space is huge, so it shouldn’t be too hard to get a table there even when busy. Our group, now 7, was easily accommodated.

This was a fairly late lunch at 1PM (lifts close at 3), so I wasn’t sure if I was going to go back up the mountain. I decided on ordering two dishes anyway – the new pear and coconut pancakes, and a prime rib beef dip with Caesar Salad. Most of my friends got a mix of different brunch and lunch items like California Shrimp Bennies, and Burgers.

I started eating my coconut and pear pancake first, because well, it came a few seconds before my beef dip. The pancake was really sweet, and came topped with sauteed pears, and a lime mascarpone cream and vanilla syrup on top. I think the coconut was mostly part of the pancake batter itself which was a bit cakier than a regular pancake. It was delicious though, and I loved the sweetness, along with the pear and mascarpone. It may be a little to sweet for some for breakfast, but I love sweetness.

The beef dip was awesome too, and served on a really nice crunchy Ciabatta bread. The meat wasn’t packed in there, but it was a decent amount, and it was nice and flavourful, maybe a little bit dry. The sauce was a bit thicker than just a jus, but it helped moisten up the meat and sandwich. My favourite part of the sandwich was the fried crispy onion strings and the gorgonzola butter. One added a nice sweet crisp (like an onion ring), and the other a little bit of pungency. The Caesar salad was good too as it had lots of roasted garlic on top. Definitely different, but a welcome addition.

The service was pretty good, but my friends coke all of a sudden turned into an ice tea after refill, but other than that, I was happy with the service. Another strange thing is that they were playing soccer instead of the Canucks game on the TVs. Four may seem like a really high score for Milestones, but I really enjoyed my dishes this time around. I guess it really just depends on what you order.

I ended up eating 3/4 of the pancakes and sharing the rest with my friends, and eating half of my sandwich so that I could go up for one more run, even though I was dead tired.

After a morning of boarding, we decided to have lunch at Merlin’s Bar and Grill in the Upper Village at Blackcomb. We had 6 people in our party, so our waitress put 2 tables together and 6 chairs around it. It was really cramped, so we were about to add another table and a chair or two, but our waitress angrily yelled us saying I thought you only had 6. The place was pretty dead and we wanted extra space for our helmets, and gloves as there was no where else to put it except for the floor.

Anyways, I looked at the menu and the chimichurri steak sandwich immediately stood out for me, so I ordered that. My other friends ordered some chilli, honey garlic wings, mushroom burgers, and more.

My steak sandwich sounded like it was going to be really good – Steak sandwich with chimichurri, arugula, and tomatoes. What I got was close, but missing what I wanted the most of, some fresh chimichurri on top or on the side. It was just marinated in it, and then cooked. I really wanted that fresh chimichurri to add extra flavour and fresh herbs and garlic. The steak was only like 1/4 inch thick, and the chimichurri was cooked on to it, but didn’t get much flavour. It was also cooked well done because it was so thin. The arugula was nice in adding some peppery flavour, and the bread was nice. But still very disappointing.

The chicken wings were delicious though, they were large and plump, crisp skin, and had awesome flavour. These were awesome! The mushroom burger patties and toppings were good, but the bread was stale. My friend loved his chilli there.

Overall I didn’t really like our service, and did not enjoy my sandwich. Other things were good though, so it seems pretty hit or miss.

I visited The Keg Steakhouse with my friends after a day of snowboarding at Whistler. The Keg is located right in the Whistler Village. It is a pretty big restaurant, it had 4 floors with the bar at the ground level.

For some reason we didn’t make a reservation for dinner, so we ended up waiting nearly an hour for a table for 8. The wait made me extra hungry, I ordered my food based on what I thought would be the biggest slab of meat, the Regular Prime Rib with Garlic Mashed Potatoes ($29.45).

Before I get to the prime rib, we also ordered their Garlic Cheese Breads ($5.95) for appetizer. The Cheese Breads were really good. It was cheddar, monterey Jack and Parmesan cheeses toasted on French bread. The blend of cheeses mixed well together and the bread was really soft. Good appetizer.

There were actually 3 sizes for the Prim Ribs, Small, Regular and Keg Size. The reason I went for ‘Regular’ was because the Keg size was too expensive for me ($33.45). When the steak came to my table, it looked really big and thick. It was probably the biggest slab of meat I’ve ever ordered at a restaurant. The steak came with garlic mashed potatoes, deep fried onions, horseradish, and red wine herb au jus.

The steak was really good. It had a lot of fat, marbled in the steak. It was flavorful, and very juicy. I ordered the steak cooked to medium, because I don’t eat raw beef, but I should have ordered it medium rare. The steak was really soft towards the middle part where it was less cooked.

The horseradish was really strong. I think they used fresh horseradish. I had a lot of it on my first try, and it felt like I just ate a ball of wasabi. It was good though. The au jus sauce was pretty good too, I didn’t end up using the horseradish and au jus too much because the steak was already flavorful enough.

The steak was bigger than I thought it would be and I only managed to finish 2/3 of it. When the waiter came to settle the bill, we found out that he had made a mistake. My ‘Regular’ sized Prime Rib was really, the ‘Keg’ sized Prime Rib. No wonder it looked as big as my friends’ Keg sized Prime Ribs! I almost ate 14oz of meat! We let the waiter know, and he apologized for the mistake and adjusted our bill back. I just got a Keg size prime rib for the price of the regular, w00t!

The Keg is usually too expensive for me to visit, but their steaks are indeed very good. This is a nice place to treat yourself once in a while. I left this steakhouse super satisfied.

I just got back from a really awesome trip to Whistler, and I did not leave without my beloved Zog’s Dogs. I love this place so much, I am writing a second review for them.

Zog’s opens from 8AM – 2:30AM! Wow, if I had known from the night before, I totally would’ve came out at 2AM to grab a hot dog. I was there at 8AM today for a breakfast before heading out to snowboarding. I didn’t know they server breakfast either! I ordered a Breakfast Wrap, which had scrambled eggs, potatoes, and salsa. No, no hot dogs in there, although that would not be a bad idea. The wrap was big, warm and nicely grilled on the outside. It’s a really hearty breakfast to start out your day at the slopes. My friend had a Farmer’s Breakfast Wrap, which had all the ingredients in the Breakfast Wrap and with sausages. He enjoyed it a lot too.

After my day at the slope, I went over to Zog’s to get a hot dog right away. It was as good as I remembered. Costing $4.75 for a regular hot dog with all beef hot dog, grilled buns, unlimited sautéed onions and condiments, this is definitely the best cheap food you will find in Whistler. So, glorious.

Out of all times I’ve been to Zogs, I’ve always stuck to the regular hot dog, because that was already delicious enough for me. They also have a big selection of specialty hot dogs. My friend today, got a Zog’s Dog. Yes, a hot dog with the same name as its restaurant name. It was hot dog with spaghetti sauce and mozzarella cheese on it. It looked really messy and monstrous, and also it got a bit disastrous to eat, but it was really tasty too.

Next time you go Whistler, grab one of these hot dogs, seriously.

This place is a must visit when you go to Whistler! Located right in the heart of whistler village, they have one of the best hot dogs I’ve ever had. The buns are perfectly toasted on the panini grill, and the dogs are perfectly grilled over the bbq grill. There’s unlimited sauté onions cooking in a giant wok for you to self serve. Other condiments include: sauerkraut, onions, hot peppers, ketchup, mustard, mayo, relish, for you to make your own perfect hotdog.

Zog’s also have really tasty poutines. Their poutine size is gianormous, and it is delicious! Fries, gravy and generous portion of cheese curds, YUM. There is literally no better food to eat than Zog’s after a day of snowboarding. You also gotta try their made to order beavertails, I recommend cinnamon sugar beavertails. so, yummy.

My whistler trips would not be complete without visiting Zog’s Dogs.
