Back in October, Beipas and I found the Deuce Bungalow: Spanglish Cantina while walking along Granville after a dinner at the Edge (review coming soon). We read the menu and decided right away that we’d be back soon for the Paella. We were really excited. We finally went back about two weeks later.

I went on their website to double check the menu to make sure I remember what I wanted. Beipas wanted seafood paella, and I wanted some chicken rice bowl of some sort. Uh oh, the menu page is down. What does this mean? I checked 3-4 more times throughout the day and it was still down.

We went anyway and were still pretty pumped, since we’ve been wanting to go for the past two weeks. We got there and were seated pretty quickly. We look at the menu… Uh oh, my rice bowl is gone. Paella is still on the menu. So we order, and I look for something else on the menu that caught my eye. I ordered the Tamales, and Beipas split the Paella with our friend. Uh oh, our server came back and told us the thing we came specifically there for was sold out. The paella is gone…at 6PM. Who the hell doesn’t keep their fridges stocked up to serve dinner. It’s not like it was late in the evening. It was the start of dinner!

So, there goes the excitement. It gets even worse. My friends look at the menu too look for something else to order. Disappointed, they just order some nachos. They get their food, and so does my other friend. Uh oh.. where is my order? Waitress says it’ll be right out. 15 minutes later.. Uh oh, waitress says my food can’t be served because the Tamales are coming out wrong and the Chef just won’t serve it. Great. My friend’s are half done eating their food, and I have nothing! She asks if I would like to look at the menu to see if there’s something else I would want.

I look, and just decided on whatever caught my eye first. Some sort of beef sandwich that was kind of like a Philly Cheese Steak. Nothing Spanish about this dish. Uh oh, I wait another 20 minutes and the waitress came back at least 2-3 times telling me that my food will be out in a few minutes each time. Yup, I waited almost an hour longer for my food and my friend’s were done eating already. The sandwiches were OK, considering I was very hungry. They were dripping butter, which I would be normally OK with, but I was already hating on this place.

The nachos were also pretty hard to eat. Look at the picture, it was stacked in a pretty dumb way, making it hard to grab your nachos with topping.

I’m never coming back. To top it off, they offered no compensation for my food. I had to pay full price. At least at Cheesecake Factory when they forgot my order. The manager personally came and apologized, and gave us our entree for free and didn’t charge us for it. The least they could have done at Deuce Bungalow was pay for my meal. But they didn’t. Eat our 1% tip.

Overall the price wasn’t that expensive, and the food was OK. I’m giving it 0.5 stars because how can I rate it when the service sucks and my food took forever to come.
