White Castle

White Castle

November 16, 2012

I didn’t have White Castle on my list of places to eat in New York. I actually completely forgot about it until my friend mentioned it. So, on my last night, I made sure I stopped by White Castle (and Shake Shack) on my way back to my hotel after watching Sleep No More.

Eataly

Eataly

Eataly is a huge Italian market in Manhattan that is co-owned by Mario Batali. It offers a market, as well as many different restaurants all within the same building. I had to check it out, but I left it until the very last evening to see it. And I couldn’t even really “see” it.

Bouchon Bakery

Bouchon Bakery

Bouchon in Napa Valley, was one of my favourite birthday’s ever. The next morning, we went back just to have some pastries from their bakery. I was happy to see that there were a couple of Bouchon Bakery locations in Manhattan as well.

Carmine’s

Carmine’s

Carmine’s is an old school family-style Italian restaurant with two locations in New York. We visited the Time Square location, and it is a huge space, but still very busy late at night. I originally removed it from my original wish list because I found out they serve the pasta family-style. Basically, I thought it wouldn’t give us much variation or choice.

Lombardi’s Pizza

Lombardi’s is one of the two pizza places I wanted to try in NY. Grimaldi’s was the other restaurant, but it had a 2 hour wait when we visited. I had to try some famous NY pizza before I left.

Gazala Place

Gazala Place

Gazala Place was a restaurant that my coworker and her husband found while exploring the Hell’s Kitchen area by our hotel. What drew us here, was the spray painted picture of Guy Fieri signifying that they were on Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives.

Empanada Mama

After dinner at Gazala Place, I wanted to eat a little bit more, so Beipas’ friend said I should try Empanada Mama. I thought it was a great idea, because empanadas are not too big, and I should be able to eat a couple without getting too full. Empanada Mama was just a short walk away, but it was still quite busy. They sell many different flavours, and with many different doughs.

Wafels and Dinges

Wafels and Dinges is a food cart with a few locations around NYC. I first saw their food truck while walking towards Time Square. I wanted to try it, but we had already eaten, and were on our way to catch a show. Luckily for me, they have a location at Central Park near my Conferences Workshops, so I was able to go there at lunch break. What is a Dinge?

Halal Guys is a popular place in NYC during lunch time and after late drunken nights. Apparently it is amazing when you are drunk.

Momofuku Noodle Bar

Momofuku Noodle Bar

When I visited NY I knew I had to try one of David Chang’s Momofuku Restaurants. I chose Noodle Bar because I was craving ramen, and it was probably the cheapest option. They don’t take reservations, but they do allow you to put your name down, and they’ll text you when your table is ready. That’s awesome. We were able to go to a bar and have some drinks while waiting.

BonChon Chicken

BonChon Chicken

BonChon Chicken was another highly recommended place by my friend. Aside from New York having the best steak ever, he also claimed that it also had the best wings ever at BonChon. I had to make my way down there. When researching them online, I found out they are actually a chain mainly in Eastern US, but also one in California, and quite a few in Asia and even the Philippines. How’d I miss it?
